Another Successful Bear Hunt in the Books!

January 2019 — Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® has successfully completed another Annual “Bear Hunt” and as a result we were able to make over 5,300 children’s holidays brighter. The Chili Cook-Off is the official start of the “Bear Hunt” effort and typically takes place at the end of October. The funds raised from the Chili Cook-Off facilitated the purchase 874 new stuffed animals, while attendees contributed an additional 370 plush toys.

Numerous organizations receive these much appreciated bears. This year, the charities benefitting from those collected in the San Antonio area include: The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, Any Baby Can, The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas, Ronald McDonald Houses, SAMM Shelter, Roy Maas Youth Alternatives, Bexar County Child Protective Services Rainbow Room, Boysville, Blue Santa, Kingdom Resources, Battered Women and Children’s Shelter, Northern Hills United Methodist Food Pantry, and several San Antonio firefighter substations and police substations.

Stuffed animals in all conditions, even those that are “too loved,” are welcome donations. The well-loved teddy bears provide comfort to the animals at the Humane Society and the Animal Defense League.

Our offices span much farther than just the San Antonio area and include locations across the Texas Hill Country. The New Braunfels office, located on Seguin Avenue, just minutes from the river, donated their haul of teddy bears to Communities in Schools, Blue Santa and Blessing Box. Kerrville went above and beyond in their efforts to collect stuffed animals for children by involving the local football team. The giving hearts of Kerrville’s Tivy High School football players and others meant that both Hill Country Casa and Hill Country Crisis Council received a welcome donation of teddy bears. At our Boerne office, donations were gifted to the Kendall County Women’s Shelter and Meadowlands Charter School.

When a child is scared and in protective custody or is getting ready to undergo surgery, our donations provide comfort when they need it most. The teddy bears console and soothe them. Is it as practical as a food or clothing donation? Perhaps not. However, to that child our teddy bears mean comfort and a bit of joy during an uncertain time.

We collect year-around for this annual event, so your donation is never too late. Please consider donating a teddy bear to the CBHarper 2019 Bear Hunt.
