CBHarper’s Tasty Traveler: Max and Louies Diner

In this article brought to us by photographer Diego Henriquez, he explores a local hot spot eatery, Max and Louie’s Diner.

So I had one of their sandwiches called, The Rachel, which is their interpretation to a Ruben. It comes with your choice of corn beef, pastrami, or turkey, swiss cheese, and coleslaw on Rye bread. First, the bread, though it is rye and tends to have a tougher texture, seemed to be a little too tough around the edges which kind of reminded me of when you toast stale bread. Though it was slightly disappointing it didn’t deter me from proceeding. Second, the pastrami was tasty but a little too fatty for me to consider it “pure” pastrami – though that’s like taking a bite of butter and saying it’s too fatty. Pastrami is usually meant to be somewhat fatty but not like slimy fatty which was my biggest complaint on the sandwich and in the whole general composition of the sandwich. Thirdly, the slaw was delicious. It’s a white cabbage, mayonnaise based, basic coleslaw but it compliments the sandwich and the fattiness elegantly. Fourthly, the swiss chess was your basic but I felt it was lacking in amount and presence. It reminded me of that good looking kid in a school dance that’s off in the corner barely being noticed – its present, with no presence. Lastly, the sandwich comes with a pickle and a side of cole slaw (which can be substituted for potato salad). The pickle was a desperate attempt to find originality; “artisan” pickle fail, with way too much dill seasoning that left your palate in an awkward state of confusion. The potato salad was just as boring as the name.

Ultimately, the sandwich cost $14 and some change and was not necessarily my favorite in flavor impact. I will say, for the price you do get a hefty sized sandwich with lots of meat and, that alone, makes it worth another shot.

Cheers, Happy Eating!

Thank you, Diego, for that enlightening and eloquent review. We will certainly need to try out this local diner!

CBHarper’s 2017 Best in Residential Real Estate

April 2017 — The San Antonio Business Journal revealed the top performing agents and teams in their annual “Best in Residential Real Estate Awards” at the Pearl Stable.

The list ranking is based on the dollar volume of closed sales in 2016 and was divided into five different categories. Of the approximately 10,000 residential real estate agents in the San Antonio area, about 3% were nominated by their brokers. We’re very thankful to our Chief Financial Officer, Jackie Thibadeau, who compiles and submits this information on behalf of Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS®.

In all 10 of our Sales Agents were recognized in two different categories. We are proud to honor our Sales Agents and their hard work. Congratulations from D’Ann Harper and the entire staff here at Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS®!

Art Meister Ranks 2nd in Division at Any Baby Can’s Walk for Autism

April 22, 2017 — Any Baby Can’s 13th Annual Walk for Autism is an Official Fiesta® San Antonio event that helps support families raising individuals with autism. Art Meister, REALTOR® here at Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® participated in this year’s event.

Art finished 2nd in his division with a time of 30:15 for the 5k (3.2) miles. Originally his goal was to finish in under 30 minutes. He attributes the extra 15 seconds it took to complete on the Double Double at In and Out Burger with clients. Well, Art, I think those Double Double’s would add at least 15 seconds on most people’s run.

“What a great cause,” says Art, “I’m so thankful and grateful that I can support and survive something like this at this point in my life.”

The race kicked off at 8:00 am with a Superhero 5k where many participants donned their favorite superhero costumes. The walk began shortly after at 9:00 am. Crowds showed their support by making banners, signs and creating team T-shirts. In addition, families, and attendees enjoyed delicious food trucks, activities, and family-friendly performances.

Thank you, Art, for bringing us this wonderful story, as well as sharing photos. Cheers on achieving 2nd place in your division and supporting Any Baby Can at their fantastic annual event.

Coldwell Banker Stagecoach Realty, Easter in Bandera

On Friday April 12th the folks at Coldwell Banker Stagecoach Realty spent some time with the children and teens at the Boys and Girls Club putting together Easter baskets. As a grass roots organization, the Boys and Girls Club maintains an average daily attendance of 185 Bandera County Youth. Their total membership base is over 700.

Their primary source of funding is through private donations and grants, which allows us to keep the membership dues low at only 10$ annually. The Boys and Girls Club provides a fund and engaging, safe environment for any youth whenever their doors are open. Club members have the opportunity to learn, grow, give back to the community, discover their needs, set goals, and meet new friends. They are open Monday – Friday after school from 3:15pm until 7:00pm and any youth aged 6-18 is welcome and encouraged to join them during these hours. Also during the summer they are open Monday – Friday from 7am – 6pm.

Amy Thibodeaux, VP of Residential Sales for the Bandera Office sent photos of the young adults at the Teen Center Club making Easter baskets for the younger children. Together over 250 Easter baskets were stuffed with, and for, the Boys and Girls Club of Bandera. Cheers to all the hard work that went into putting these lovely baskets together. How heart warming to see the results!

Le Brunch des Chapeaux

Thursday, April 6th — The Autism Community Network is an organization that maximizes the potential of children with autism by increasing autism awareness and services for families throughout the San Antonio area.

Lindsey Ashcroft attended Le Brunch des Chapeaux in Alamo Heights at the Argyle benefiting the Autism Community Network. The Autism Community Network focuses on collaboration with other autism service providers, early diagnosis, and providing services to underserved young children and their families. Over 75% of families served are on Medicaid, and they are the only agency in San Antonio to provide medical interdisciplinary autism diagnostic services for children on Medicaid. Charitable contributions make up around 90% of their funding, and it is wonderful to hear about Lindsey’s support of this event.

Le Brunch des Chapeaux, a sold out event, was also supported by a variety of local businesses including Julian Gold and Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry. As with any fine brunch all the ladies were adorned in elegantly fabulous hats. Thank you to Lindsey Ashcroft who brought us this story and share beautiful photos of the day.

Simply gorgeous.
