Boerne Wild Game Dinner 2015

WGDScopeLogo3Web1Saturday, November 7th — This event hosted by the Boerne Chamber of Commerce marks the 5th Annual Wild Game Dinner. Located at the Kendall County Fair on River Rd., this is just down the street from Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Boerne Office at 1677 River Road. Proceeds from the event provide four-year scholarships to Kendall County youth who study for agriculture, wildlife management, culinary arts and fine arts. Honored recipients of these scholarships are Steely Lott, Hayley Butler, Emery Dorman and Sterling Shrum, featured here in a special edition of  2015 Boerne Wild Game Dinner Boerne Magazine. The publication explains how the event was created in 2011 to share a vision of good food with family and friends. 

Starting at 5:30pm and running until 10pm neighbors from throughout the Hill Country, TexasIMG_2761 Coast and from as far away as Houston all gathered in this celebration. Featuring live and silent auction, a wild game expo, an art show and the beauty of Americana this was the event to attend. Chairman’s Circle sponsor (and dear friends) GVTC, along with presenting sponsor Ranch Radio, were there to participate in the festivities. Exceptional cooks were the cornerstone, and let’s face it – it’s all about the food!  Serving up some of the best food Texas has to offer, these chef’s feature delicacy’s such as jalapeño-bacon-wrapped quail, grilled bison sliders (we heard these were a big hit), fried alligator, whole roasted hog, elk fajitas, crawfish pasta and more. The cook teams were sponsored by H.E.B. and this years teams were:

Mike Saur Automotive: Axis Guisada (guisada, translates to “stewed meat,” and is a slow-simmered dish that varies across the state)

FullSizeRender[1]Some of the fabulous auction items included 10 Day Safari Hunt for 2 Hunters with Antelope for Africa Safaris (during the Live Auction), Argentina dove hunt, and original artwork. Plus the opportunity to talk with the hunting-related product vendors showing products and services. An art show plus sale helped visitors find that perfect piece to hang over their mantel.

For just $20 admission, this is a wonderful full of truly unique and diverse dishes. If you missed it this year, be sure to bookmark this for next year. Every year it seems like this just gets bigger and better!

Those volunteering with the Raffle were: John Figueroa, Wesley Boyd, Gary Beck, Lynn Phillips, Christy Green, Chad Keeth, Kim Melanson, and Wade Phillips.

Shown above, Janette Springer from our Boerne Office, took a photo of beautiful six-month-old baby kangaroo at wildlife booth. The organization, called JRH Exotics, is located off Hwy 46 just west of 281 in Bulverde. The pictured kangaroo is a pet and not for sale, but he sure is cute!
