Friends of Communities In Schools
May 16th, 2016 — Keeping Kids in School held its annual luncheon on Monday. Jessica Weaver, CEO of Communities in Schools San Antonio (CIS-SA) celebrated supporters for their commitment and accomplishments.
Pictured right is D’Ann Harper, Broker/Owner of Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® and Cathy O’Connor, a Sales Agent and champion of the cause. Cathy sits on the steering committee of Friends of Communities In Schools, a support group who is committed to getting the word out about CIS and how important their work is at keeping “at risk” students in school. They accomplish this by promoting membership for Friends of Communities In Schools. Small donations of as little as $25 benefit this organization greatly, but most people give more once they understand just how important their gift is. Friends of Communities In Schools memberships are used for mini-grants that enable CIS site coordinators to provide special activities for their students. It also supports the partnership with local resources such as the McNay Art Museum, giving CIS students a private tour with lunch and art projects. Activities such as these develop students’ positive self-esteem, confidence, and respect. All efforts are designed to help them reach their ultimate goal of graduating from high school and going on to become successful citizens in the community.
Held at Omni San Antonio in the Colonade, Weaver told the audience during the luncheon, “Our mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life, can’t be done without a community that cares.”
