Stephanie Farias Achieves Historic House Specialist Designation

Very recently we wrote an article about the Historic House Specialist Designation. Just a small number of classes have been held for this relatively new designation since its inception as a recognized course. San Antonio Board of REALTORS®, the City of San Antonio Office of Historic Preservation (OHP), and a group of like-minded REALTORS® worked together to ultimately bring this unique designation to San Antonio real estate agents.

The purpose of the course is to educate real estate agents on how they can maximize and assist clients on opportunities to own a historic property in San Antonio. Given the number of growing neighborhoods that have been deemed historic, this is a huge step towards reducing liability and increasing education.

Stephanie Farias is the second agent in entire Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® brokerage to receive this designation. As part of the completion of this course, Stephanie was provided with instruction on the Historic & Design Review Commission, the permit process, and tips for marketing a historic home. The course also covers how to finance a historic home and highlighting some of its benefits.

Curious as to whether your home, or your clients’ home qualifies as a historic home? The OHP has an online web tool that helps identify locations in San Antonio that have or lie within an area that has a historic designation. As with most historic homes in various areas of the United States or other countries, structures that fall into these categories are often subject to additional rules and restrictions for the purpose of preservation.
