CBHarper 2017 Spring Blood Drive

Several times a year Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® hosts a blood drive coordinated by Denise Barnhill. The buses that visit us bring wonderful teams from The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center who work hard to collect life-saving blood donations.

Yesterday’s Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Spring Blood Drive was a tremendous success. We collected 15 pints of blood and exceeded our goal of 11 pints of blood, which means we saved 45 lives. Each pint of blood can save up to 3 lives.

A special thank you goes to everyone who donated and who also helped to make our Blood Drive such a tremendous success. Thanks to Mika Connor and Danielle Martin for coordinating and collecting names.

Thank you to everyone who donated blood today by giving someone the gift of life.

We wanted to offer an outlet for those that still wanted to give but perhaps ran out of time. There is a location very close just off Northwest Military and Loop 1604 where donors can drop by – you can even schedule an appointment online here.

Blood Drive August 2016

August 4th 2016Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® partnered with Covenant, located on the first floor of our Tuscany Center building at 18756 Stone Oak Pkwy., for this summer’s blood drive. Our goal was to collect 11 pints of blood, but we exceeded that by collecting 17 pints of blood. Each pint of blood can save up to 3 lives, which means we saved 51 lives.

Everyday the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center needs over 600 units of life saving blood. One whole blood donation can save up to 3 lives. Patients needs do not take vacations or holidays, the need is ongoing.

A special thank you to everyone who donated, helped get donations and helped with the drive. We would like to take this time to recognize Mika Connor who coordinated the master donor list, Sharlene Richards who gathered names on the 3rd floor and David Akright for recruiting volunteer donors at Covenant.

Our next blood drive is scheduled for December 1, 2016. Until then, if you would like to visit one of the South Texas Blood & Tissue Centers offices to make a blood donation, they can be found here:

CBHarper’s ‘Luck O’ The Irish’ Blood Drive 2016

firstMarch 10th — The Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Holiday Blood Drive was held on Thursday from 9:45am – 12:15pm in the Stone Oak Office parking lot.  In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, green and gold beads were handed out along, with sweet green treats. All of the donors received a T-Shirt as well designed with its uniquely wonderful message of giving, ”Be The Type.” We exceeded our expectations and had a record 19 people sign up plus folks who “dropped-in”. Our goal was 11 pints of blood and we collected 14 pints!

The buses that visit us are small and the wonderful team from The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center work hard. We wanted to offer an outlet for those that still wanted to give but perhaps ran out of time. There is a location very close just off Northwest Military and Loop 1604 where donors can drop by – you can even schedule an appointment online here.

320_4894046Here are some donor FAQs courtesy of South Texas Blood & Tissue Center:

How do I benefit from making a donation?

Answer: You receive a mini-physical (pulse, temperature and iron check) and the satisfaction that come from saving lives.

Are the health history questions necessary every time?

Answer: The FDA requires that all blood centers ask about your medical history every time you donate to ensure the safety of the blood supply. You have to wait a certain amount of time between donations. A lot can happen in that time. The questions serve as a layer of protection for patients who receive blood.

How long does donated blood last?

Answer: Refrigerated red blood cells can be stored for up to 42 days. Plasma is frozen and stored for up to one year. Platelets can be stored for only five days.

How will I feel afterwards?

Answer: After resting for five to ten minutes and enjoying refreshments to replenish your fluids, you should feel just fine and ready to continue your daily activities. You should refrain from heavy lifting or extreme physical exertion for 24 hours and you’ll feel great knowing you have helped save three lives.

True Colors Blood Drive

The Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Stone Oak office has been the site for a quarterly blood donation event. The coordinator for this event is our own Denise Barnhill. On top of being an accomplished Real Estate Associate with more than 12 designations and numerous accolades such as Eagle of the Year for 2013, Denise has offered to be the voice for donating blood through South Texas Blood & Tissue Center. Even Count Dracula made a special appearance at our office Dracula - Meetingmeeting this morning trying to collect several pints of blood for the CBDHR’s Blood Drive in exchange for a wonderful T-shirt and some snacks.

Our goal was 11 pints and we collected 14 pints!! We exceeded our goal and are proud to continue supporting this wonderful cause! If you could not make it out to today’s event please visit your local South Texas Blood & Tissue Center or stay tuned for our next blood donation date.

Staff MemberLocal blood donors can impact the blood supply worldwide by contributing their ‘Donating for Life’ points to the ‘Global Blood Fund‘ and its ‘Open Arms Program.’

“Our donors are saving lives every day in South Texas and beyond, and the Open Arms Program allows them to help save lives around the world,” said Elizabeth Waltman, STBTC chief operating officer. “Many donors have accumulated thousands of points which could be converted into significant funds to support Global Blood Fund instead of purchasing donor recognition items such as T-shirts.”  – See more by clicking here.

Commit to GIVE, someone needs your help!

Donating BloodAs a prospective donor you will need to bring at least one form of identification in order to register. Then complete a brief health questionnaire to determine your eligibility. After going through a screening process a technician will take important vitals signs such as temperature, blood pressure and iron levels. Upon passing the medical screening you will sit comfortably where a technician will help you proceed with the donation. Upon completion you can enjoy some refreshments and a FREE T-Shirt.

For more information about specific types of donations download this brochure by clicking here.

After your donation you can rest, eat a snack and recover a bit before heading out to the rest of your day. Restrictions include no heavy lifting for about 6 hours, drink plenty of non-caffeinated fluids and keep strenuous activities to a minimum for about 12-24 hours (hiking, running, aerobics). For a full list of other ways you can give visit their website: southtexasblood.org

Below are some photos from today’s blood donation. It looks scary to those of you who might be afraid of needles but the staff on-board was very kind and attentive. As professionals they offered some great stories about their adventures in the blood donation bus and even got a round of laughter.
