2nd Annual Easter Bunny Basket Brigade

March 2017 — Debbie McNeal, our award winning REALTOR® from the Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Boerne Office organized the 2nd Annual Easter Bunny Basket Brigade. The Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries needed 450 baskets to be distributed to local children.

Starting early this year, during late February, Debbie McNeal and Jennifer Nichols planned to culminate their donation efforts on March 9th by assembling baskets.  They reached out to friends, family and CBHarper Family to collect monetary and tangible contributions. The Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries needed 450 baskets, 150 wooden cross necklaces, 350 bibles plus assembling efforts.  With donations collected they were able to purchase all of the items needed by HCDBM & had many volunteers to assemble baskets.

In just 4 short days their goal was not only met, but exceeded. Debbie reported,

I am very happy to say that with the help of donations made & volunteers to help with Basket Assembly, our 2nd Annual Easter Bunny Basket Brigade to benefit Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries was a HUGE success. We were able to donate 450 baskets, 150 Wooden Cross Necklaces & 350 Bibles. We also had a great time assembling 146 Completed Baskets to be delivered to Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries. I am grateful to all who contributed! Many children will be blessed at Easter thanks to all who contributed!

Well Debbie, you are very welcome!

Thank you to everyone who helped assemble baskets and made contributions. Shout out to the entire Boerne office for their continued efforts to give back to the community!

Different Types of Fireplaces Texans Need To Know About

January 2017 — Given that we’re enjoying a particularly mild winter this year, the issue of a fireplace arises out of aesthetics versus necessity here in South Texas. Perhaps you just like to recreate the feeling of winter, as many experience farther North, but a fireplace can be that key element.

Whether you’re entertaining having a fireplace installed or looking for it as a feature in your next home, it is worth knowing the difference. There are several main categories in which most fireplaces fall; Wood Burning Fireplaces, Gas Burning, Ethanol Burning and Electric Fireplaces. Here are some basics for you to consider when weighting your options.

Wood Burning Fireplaces

Open Hearth Fireplace
 — These are typically built on site by a mason and lined with real firebrick. While the ambiance is unmistakable, the efficiency is low. Much of the heated air escapes through the flue, pulling directly from your home.

Fireplace Inserts  — These are the most popular model. Fireplace inserts are units designed to fit inside an existing fireplace. They help the system burn and heat more efficiently, but they’re expensive and can be difficult to design.

Enclosed Fireplaces  — While similar to inserts, in the sense that they are both enclosed, this type of fireplace is slightly different. Traditionally this type of fireplace features large glass paneling and is both efficient and beautiful.

Wood Burning Stoves — While not technically a fireplace, wood-burning stoves are a great alternative. We see them quite frequently in vintage style homes, or those set in the Hill Country style. This allows you to burn wood for heating while enjoying the crackling, comforting sound of

Gas Burning Fireplaces

Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces
 — These are vented through an existing or newly constructed chimney. Alternatively a pipe can be used to minimize changes to your home’s structure. With flexible options in placement, this is a much easier install than traditional wood fireplaces. This style also features a high efficiency rating that prevents warm air from being lost up the flue.

Ventless Built-In Fireplaces  — The simplest to install this model does not require a chimney or a vent. With a signature blue flame due to the burning gas it does run the risk that some contaminant will enter your home.

Ethanol Burning Fireplaces

Ethanol Fireplace Conversion
 — If you have an existing fireplace but want to avoid the mess of soot and wood cleanup, this might be the right option for you. The ethanol burning insert will slide right in and make use of the space. A variety of styles are available to suit both modern and tradition tastes.

Wall Mounted Fireplaces  — The perfect centerpiece for a living space or lounge area, this makes a great alternative hanging a television. If your home does not already come with a fireplace this is a super stylish way to add that decorative touch. This model with most likely not create as much heat, but they are more environmentally friendly.

Electric Fireplaces

Mantel & TV Stand Fireplaces
 — Mantel fireplaces allow you to enjoy the elegance of a traditional fireplace without the hassle of install or excessive expense. Most of them also enable you to turn on a heating function and have a variety of effects.
Electric fireplace TV stands allow you to incorporate both an entertainment center and a fireplace. These are less common but can be beneficial for those who live in smaller homes or apartments.

2016 Annual Bear Hunt

The Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Annual Bear Hunt wrapped up for 2016 with a total of over 4,200 stuffed animals and teddy bears. Jené Rand, REALTOR® and coordinator for this annual event shared some heartwarming stats last week.

While we did not beat last year’s numbers, there are many children who benefited from this charitable cause. It all started at the company’s 2016 Chili Cook-Off. All attendees bring either a stuffed animal or $2 to contribute towards the upcoming years’ Annual Bear Hunt. In addition, there is a silent auction, games, prizes and of course, delicious chili to be tasted. The proceeds from the 2016 Chili Cook-Off totaled more than $6,000!

In the featured image, pictured are our Kerrville Sales Agents with their donation of over 100 stuffed animals going towards the Hill Country Community Needs Council. Cynthia Loving, Vice President of Residential Sales says, “If it wasn’t for faithful supporters wonderful causes like this wouldn’t exist. Thank you to all of those who helped make the difference in these children’s lives.”

With those funds 1,151 new stuffed bears were purchased. The majority of new stuffed animals go directly to the Children’s Hospital. Contributions go to a wide variety of organizations that include the following:
San Antonio Area: Boysville, Any Baby Can, Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald Houses, Youth Alternatives, Bexar County Child Protective Services, SAMM’s Shelter, Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas, Blue Santa’s, Forgotten Child, Medina Children’s Home, Kingdom Resources, Universal City Fire and Police Departments.
New Braunfels Area: Brown Santa in Hayes County, Be Nice Express, and Angel Ministries.
Fredericksburg Area: Hill Country Community Needs Council.
Boerne Area: The Kendall County Family Services, The Hill Country Daily Bread, Families Especial,  Kendall County Sheriff Department and Boerne Police ” Blue Santa’s”

Aside from donations, both monetary and plush, many staff members help organize and promote our Annual Bear Hunt. Thank you to all that helped count, bag and deliver the thousands of stuffed bears and other toy animals.

If you would like to contribute, we collect all year-round. The donations are stored at their respective offices until the following December when they’re delivered to brighten the holidays of children.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Integrity 1st Happy Client Party 2016

June 2016 — Andy Smith of Integrity 1st Group hosted the 2nd Annual Client Appreciation Party. Last year as a thank you to his first 100 clients, Andy hosted a party to show his gratitude. This year, now as the team Integrity 1st Group, Andy held the party at his home sweet home in Boerne, TX. Now at over 150 closings they wanted to continue the festivities.

12525671_758957054237669_4512109389999758803_oThe deftly planned menu brought home cooked deliciousness to the crowds of over 100 attendees. The Good Helper catered an assortment of foods including Thai Chicken, Greek Sliders, Grilled Smoked Sausage, Tabouli, Hummus, Penne Pasta Salad, Pesto Potato Salad and more! Wow, doesn’t that sound good y’all?

Always welcome in the Texas summer were drinks, a bouncy house and plenty of places to sit and relax. Always a hit was the petting zoo, no need to hire anyone, “Casa de Smith” is home to chickens and playful goats happy to oblige. If that weren’t enough our local music star, Clifton Jansky and a less well know singer Andy Smith himself, sang a completely unique rendition of Good Hearted Woman (and her home sellin’ man).

Held by Debbie McNeal and Amy Thibodeaux out of the Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTOR® Boerne Sales Office this cause with directly benefit local children in need of sock and undergarments. Below is the invitation with all the information about this great cause. Thank you Andy for sharing the spirit of giving back.
