CBHarper Best Place to Work for 2017

The San Antonio Business Journal announced 75 winners in its 2017 Best Places to Work awards.

This year’s winners fall into four different categories. To determine this year’s winner, Quantum Workplace surveyed employees through a secure website posing a range of questions in categories relating to teamwork, leadership, benefits and work engagement. The honoree companies were those that scored highest.

Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® is a family owned company. That phrase is often tossed about and therefore perhaps become watered down in its meaning. Our CBHarper family is more that just “family owned and operated”, it IS family. We grow and work together closely to offer the level of service we would hope to receive.

A luncheon will be hosted on July 20th at the Grand Hyatt where we will be humbly accepting our award. Through the years as we continue to receive ‘Best Places to Work’ awards it is a reminder of our responsibility to provide that positive environment. The President of Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS®, Leesa Harper-Rispoli, will gladly stop, give you a hug in the hallway and ask about your family. Why? Because it’s more than just a job, and she is more than just an employer or business woman. Leesa and D’Ann (Broker / Owner) are passionate and care deeply about their employees. They know that the success of a company relies on those who work, behind the scenes, day in and day out to sustain a synergy of trust, transparency, and fulfillment.

Thank you to all of the support staff who make this possible. You are heard and appreciated.

Memorial Day: A Story of Remembrance

This Memorial Day, the story of the remembrance table will become a bit better known. It is with great thanks to Bill L. Starr, an agent with Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS®, for his service to our country. He set up “The Fallen Man Table”. The tradition of setting a separate table in honor of our prisoners of war and missing comrades has been in place since the end of the Vietnam War. The manner is which this table is decorated is full of special symbols to help us remember our brothers and sisters in arms.

The white tablecloth draped over the table represents the purity of their response to our country’s call to arms.

The empty chair depicts an unknown face, representing no specific Airman, Marine, Sailor, or Soldier, but all who are not here with us.

The table itself is round to show that our concern for them is never-ending.

The black napkin stands for the emptiness these warriors have left in the hearts of their families and friends.

The single red rose to remind us of their families and loved ones.

The red ribbon represents the love of our country, which inspired them to answer the nation’s call.

The slices of lemon on the bread plate remind us of their bitter fate.

The salt upon the bread plate represents the tears of their families.

The wine glass turned upside down, reminds us that our distinguished comrades cannot be with us to drink a toast or join in the festivities of the evening.

We would like to wish you all an honorable Memorial Day. Join us in thanking those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Also, let us recognize the families and friends who have supported our servicemen and women as they defend our freedom and country. It is their memory we wish to hold dear.

Have an Honorable Memorial Day.

Adopt-A-Pet, CBHarper & New Braunfels Humane Society Team Up

On Saturday, May 20th the office at Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper Realtors in New Braunfels, Texas teamed up with their local New Braunfels Humane Society for their  Adopt-a-Dog day. “ This is the second time we have done this with their organization, and it’s a wonderful feeling to help the local dogs that are often abandoned or surrendered,” says Julie Gezella, VP for the New Braunfels office.

The event was well promoted, with all the newest in Coldwell Banker “Somebody to Love” promotional materials. Not to mention the fabulous heart-tugging commercial that is now airing!

Raffle tickets for a customized dog house were selling for $5.00 each.  “Our friends at Coventry/Wilshire Homes graciously donated this amazing dog house for BOTH years we’ve done this. To have a miniature little house with all the decked out high-end building amenities was pretty awesome!” says Gezella.

There was an auction with dog related items, as well as a donation jar for money and drop off station for food and dog items to help the Humane Society.

Seven dogs were delivered to the New Braunfels parking Lot (the Humane Society had a great week prior, adopting out several dogs already!!), one went home that day, one needed to do paperwork on Monday, and one needed a home visit to the prospective adoptee’s ranch to see how “Sandy” handled the horses he had.

“Main thing is the awareness that often people don’t know about. ADOPT don’t SHOP.  I personally have adopted THREE dogs from the New Braunfels Humane Society,” Gezella states. “ Once Coldwell Banker rolled out their 2015-2016 Promotion and challenged us to promote the adoption of 20,000 dogs, I just knew I had to be part of that. “

Over $800 was raised through raffle tickets and auction items, all benefiting New Braunfels Humane Society.

How can you resist those faces?! Such wonderful news to hear that seven dogs found their fur-ever homes.

CBHarper’s Tasty Traveler: Max and Louies Diner

In this article brought to us by photographer Diego Henriquez, he explores a local hot spot eatery, Max and Louie’s Diner.

So I had one of their sandwiches called, The Rachel, which is their interpretation to a Ruben. It comes with your choice of corn beef, pastrami, or turkey, swiss cheese, and coleslaw on Rye bread. First, the bread, though it is rye and tends to have a tougher texture, seemed to be a little too tough around the edges which kind of reminded me of when you toast stale bread. Though it was slightly disappointing it didn’t deter me from proceeding. Second, the pastrami was tasty but a little too fatty for me to consider it “pure” pastrami – though that’s like taking a bite of butter and saying it’s too fatty. Pastrami is usually meant to be somewhat fatty but not like slimy fatty which was my biggest complaint on the sandwich and in the whole general composition of the sandwich. Thirdly, the slaw was delicious. It’s a white cabbage, mayonnaise based, basic coleslaw but it compliments the sandwich and the fattiness elegantly. Fourthly, the swiss chess was your basic but I felt it was lacking in amount and presence. It reminded me of that good looking kid in a school dance that’s off in the corner barely being noticed – its present, with no presence. Lastly, the sandwich comes with a pickle and a side of cole slaw (which can be substituted for potato salad). The pickle was a desperate attempt to find originality; “artisan” pickle fail, with way too much dill seasoning that left your palate in an awkward state of confusion. The potato salad was just as boring as the name.

Ultimately, the sandwich cost $14 and some change and was not necessarily my favorite in flavor impact. I will say, for the price you do get a hefty sized sandwich with lots of meat and, that alone, makes it worth another shot.

Cheers, Happy Eating!

Thank you, Diego, for that enlightening and eloquent review. We will certainly need to try out this local diner!

Kerry Dike, Back-to-Back #1 Individual Sales Agent 2015-2016

As the famous Shrek once said, “Onions have layers.” Much like the almighty onion Kerry Dike also has layers, except she doesn’t stink and won’t make you cry (on purpose).

Kerry Dike has been a Sales Agent with Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® since September 2006. On her eleven year journey with Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Kerry is often described as extremely hard-working, energetic and a creative problem-solver. Well known for her sense of humor, Kerry is able to meet any challenge with optimism and determination. Evidence of her success has been the achievement of #1 Sales Agent in the company for 2015 and 2016. Kerry’s multi-million dollar production ranks heftily at approximately 12 million dollars.

Outside of being a full-time REALTOR® Kerry is involved in a Planning and Zoning Committee for the City of Shavano Park. The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of nine members appointed by City Council, one of which is Kerry. They recommend boundaries of zoning districts, appropriate regulations, as well as preparation for public hearings and reports to City Council.

When asked about her goals Kerry says, “It’s about everyday, working to be a better REALTOR® than I was the day before. I want to show my children that life is about work ethic and how hard you’re willing to work to get what you want. For me, D’Ann remains the Gold Standard in every way. Period. I’m proud to be a part of that legacy.”

The most positive impact on Kerry’s success has been her family. They have taught her that in the right shoes, you can go anywhere — except if you’re in heels… and it’s muddy or if you’re on one of those gravel paths. Regardless, Kerry says she makes family choices and support non-negotiable in business.

Going forward her Kerry’s goal for 2017 is to be the best real estate consultant she can be. She does offer some advice for those looking to break into the real estate industry, “Luck doesn’t exist in real estate. When you are prepared for success, you will then recognize opportunities as they happen.”

… also, “Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you’re a mile away, and you have their shoes.”

Mason’s Mighty Superheroes

Cindy Enloe, REALTOR® brought us this heroic story of courage, triumph and love.

Meet Mason Martinez. Mason was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia on June 21st 2016 just one month after moving to Texas from Tampa, Florida. He was looking forward to trying out for the local swim team, the Hammerheads and making new friends at his school. This seven year old superhero was met with the kryptonite of blood cancer. His summer dreams were dashed as he battled for his life while his bone marrow was occupied by 93% and his blood by 50%.

Since then, Mason has spent over 35 nights in the hospital enduring two bone marrow sampling procedures, hundreds of doses of chemotherapy and over 15 outpatient lumbar punctures to test his brain and spinal fluid for any “kryptonite”.

Through his struggles his family and community in the Heights at Stone Oak/Hardy Oak Elementary area has loved and supported him. On July 28th, Mason “Ace” Martinez reached full remission! To help support Mason and his family a Superhero Race has been organized.
