3rd Annual “Cover Their Tush & Toes Challenge”

Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® has partnered with the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries for the third year to help provide socks and underwear for area children. Led by Debbie McNeal, REALTOR® who gives her time, energy and heart to benefit such a great cause. In the feature image Jannette Springer and Marjory Felter, REALTORS® are pictured alongside Debbie McNeal and her mom. They are delivering their biggest donation to date.

In total we supplied the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries with sock and underwear for 130 children for Back to School. It is amazing to bless so many children, amazing work Debbie McNeal and all those that supported these efforts. We give in a variety of different ways throughout the year. Conversations with Friends of Optimists

January 12th, 2017 — Debbie McNeal, the President of the Hill Country Optimist Club in Boerne brought us some exciting news this morning.

On Thursday, January 19th 2017 the Hill Country Optimist Club with be hosting an event called Conversation with Friends of Optimists with featured speaker, D’Ann Harper.

Located at the Burdick Community Center, the 1st Semi-Annual “Conversations with Friends of Optimists,” is welcoming all guests. D’Ann Harper, owner and CEO of Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTOR® will speak about how we can positively affect the lives of local children. Harper serves on the Board of Directors for Roy Maas Youth Alternatives (RMYA) and is passionate about serving in the Hill Country and San Antonio communities.

The Meadowland Charter School in Boerne is part of RMYA. They provide a safe, structured and consistent environment, including a seamless connection to a therapeutic component. It is their goal for all students to benefit from the structured setting so they can be successful both academically and socially.

The Hill Country Optimist Club (HCOC) works very closely with Meadowland and RMYA. The HCOC was recently awarded the Childrens’ Champion Award by RMYA for their contribution toward betterment of local youth.

Please join us and the members of the HCOC to find out how RMYA, Meadowland Charter School and the HCOC work together to affect positive changes in the lives of local children.

2016 Annual Bear Hunt

The Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Annual Bear Hunt wrapped up for 2016 with a total of over 4,200 stuffed animals and teddy bears. Jené Rand, REALTOR® and coordinator for this annual event shared some heartwarming stats last week.

While we did not beat last year’s numbers, there are many children who benefited from this charitable cause. It all started at the company’s 2016 Chili Cook-Off. All attendees bring either a stuffed animal or $2 to contribute towards the upcoming years’ Annual Bear Hunt. In addition, there is a silent auction, games, prizes and of course, delicious chili to be tasted. The proceeds from the 2016 Chili Cook-Off totaled more than $6,000!

In the featured image, pictured are our Kerrville Sales Agents with their donation of over 100 stuffed animals going towards the Hill Country Community Needs Council. Cynthia Loving, Vice President of Residential Sales says, “If it wasn’t for faithful supporters wonderful causes like this wouldn’t exist. Thank you to all of those who helped make the difference in these children’s lives.”

With those funds 1,151 new stuffed bears were purchased. The majority of new stuffed animals go directly to the Children’s Hospital. Contributions go to a wide variety of organizations that include the following:
San Antonio Area: Boysville, Any Baby Can, Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald Houses, Youth Alternatives, Bexar County Child Protective Services, SAMM’s Shelter, Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas, Blue Santa’s, Forgotten Child, Medina Children’s Home, Kingdom Resources, Universal City Fire and Police Departments.
New Braunfels Area: Brown Santa in Hayes County, Be Nice Express, and Angel Ministries.
Fredericksburg Area: Hill Country Community Needs Council.
Boerne Area: The Kendall County Family Services, The Hill Country Daily Bread, Families Especial,  Kendall County Sheriff Department and Boerne Police ” Blue Santa’s”

Aside from donations, both monetary and plush, many staff members help organize and promote our Annual Bear Hunt. Thank you to all that helped count, bag and deliver the thousands of stuffed bears and other toy animals.

If you would like to contribute, we collect all year-round. The donations are stored at their respective offices until the following December when they’re delivered to brighten the holidays of children.

Bear Hunt 2016 – CBHarper Stuffed Animal Donation Drive

775_4506310December 2016 — Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® is continuing its annual tradition of collecting new and pre-loved bears or other stuffed animals. These plush donations go to children in need and help make a child’s holiday a little brighter. Our goal this year is to collect 8,000 stuffed animals for our Bear Hunt.

Since 1990, during the holiday season, we collect thousands of stuffed animals and distributes them to many different organizations. We truly enjoy giving back to our community and making wishes come true.

Spread The Warmth: Coats, Blankets and Space Heater Drive

The Hill Country daily Bread Ministries has 250 families they are serving this year. They are in need of coats, blankets and space heaters for these families. Debbie McNeal has set up a YouCaring.com account for those wishing to contribute donations with a credit card.

Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® will take the proceeds and purchase as many coats, blankets and heaters as we can. Those items will then be delivered along with any other items received to Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries on Friday December 9th, 2016.

CBHarper’s Holiday Blood Drive

Ian & Joe’s Benefit – Plate Sale and Raffle

July 30th 2016 — We see the words “plate sale” or “raffle” and different images are conjured in one’s mind. Often times it is easy to pass up this very easy opportunity to help another simply because we hear it so often. Maybe in the rush of everyday life we simply feel as though stopping by the ATM isn’t as tempting as heading straight home to relax after a long day at the office.

We are writing this article to reach out to our CBHarper Community and readers. When we wake up each day, thankful for all that we have, the unfortunate is never expected. Two gentleman went to work on a day just like any other. Rather than just another day at the office, these two family men were scalded in a hot water accident. With respect to their families we are withholding further details. One of the men however is the son of our CBHarper family member Judy Hambrick.

When we heard that a group of friends and families were gathering together to raise money in their time of need, gladly we wanted to spread the word. Here is how you can help:

FVPS Donation Drive For Women & Children

In this year’s “Changing Lives, Donation Drive” we, at Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS®, strive to continue our efforts in giving back to the community. This year-long opportunity to give back is designed to allow an open door for those who would like to get involved. Semi-annually (July and February) we will have scheduled pick-ups through Family Violence Prevention Screen Shot 2016-07-08 at 12.01.15 PMServices to donate the most urgently needed items.

Family Violence Prevention Services has operated since 1977. Their mission is to break the cycle of violence and to strengthen families by providing the necessary tools for self-sufficiency through delivery of emergency shelter, transitional housing, education, effective parenting education, and specialized intervention with youth and the elderly. They serve more than 8,000 adults and children each year. 

“Families are our society’s most basic and important unit. All things impacting our society have their genesis in the family. FVPS has the incredible and rewarding responsibility to serve families and coordinate with our community to deliver services that mend the body, restore the spirit, and help each person recognize their worth. Reaching out to people of all ages and backgrounds, educating our community about domestic violence, and offering comprehensive programs that support long-term change is what we do. Our work with children is some of the most critical, as it is with them that the best chance exists to reduce domestic violence for generations to come.”

CBHarper’s ‘Luck O’ The Irish’ Blood Drive 2016

firstMarch 10th — The Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Holiday Blood Drive was held on Thursday from 9:45am – 12:15pm in the Stone Oak Office parking lot.  In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, green and gold beads were handed out along, with sweet green treats. All of the donors received a T-Shirt as well designed with its uniquely wonderful message of giving, ”Be The Type.” We exceeded our expectations and had a record 19 people sign up plus folks who “dropped-in”. Our goal was 11 pints of blood and we collected 14 pints! 

The buses that visit us are small and the wonderful team from The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center work hard. We wanted to offer an outlet for those that still wanted to give but perhaps ran out of time. There is a location very close just off Northwest Military and Loop 1604 where donors can drop by – you can even schedule an appointment online here.

How do I benefit from making a donation?

Answer: You receive a mini-physical (pulse, temperature and iron check) and the satisfaction that come from saving lives.

Are the health history questions necessary every time?

Answer: The FDA requires that all blood centers ask about your medical history every time you donate to ensure the safety of the blood supply. You have to wait a certain amount of time between donations. A lot can happen in that time. The questions serve as a layer of protection for patients who receive blood.

How long does donated blood last?

Answer: Refrigerated red blood cells can be stored for up to 42 days. Plasma is frozen and stored for up to one year. Platelets can be stored for only five days.

How will I feel afterwards?

Answer: After resting for five to ten minutes and enjoying refreshments to replenish your fluids, you should feel just fine and ready to continue your daily activities. You should refrain from heavy lifting or extreme physical exertion for 24 hours and you’ll feel great knowing you have helped save three lives.

CBHarper Holiday Blood Drive 2015

December 10th — The Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Holiday Blood Drive was held on Thursday from 9:45am – 12:15pm in the Stone Oak Office parking lot.  All of the donors received a T-Shirt designed with its, as always, uniquely wonderful message of giving, ” You care. You give. You share. You Matter.” We exceeded our GOAL of 11 pints by 3 and collected 14 pints of blood. This marks our 5th year participating in semi-annual blood drives for South Texas Blood & Tissue Center and we hope to continue for many years to come.

Enjoy iron-rich foods. Well-balanced diet with plenty of iron-rich foods helps maintain a healthy hematocrit level and ensure donors are eligible to give blood.

• LEGUMES, NUTS & SEEDS: Lentils, Kidney Beans, Almonds, Cashews, Soy Beans, Pumpkin Seeds, Sesame Seeds and Hazelnuts.

• MEAT & FISH: Lean Red Meat, Clams, Shrimp and Pork

• FRUIT: Watermelon, Peaches, Apricots, Dried Dates or Prunes

• BREAD & GRAIN: Fortified Cereals, Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Whole Grains and Gingerbread.

• VEGETABLES: Baked Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Spinach, Chard, Asparagus, Artichokes and Beets or Beet Greens.

Blood Donation Quick Facts:

• Blood makes up about seven percent (7%) of your body weight.

• 10-12 pints is the average amount of blood in an adult

• Platelet donors can donate every 7 days

• Blood donation takes on average 10-15 minutes

• Type O is the most requested type by hospitals; 45% of Americans have Type O, while just 7% have Type O- (the latter is a universal donor)
