Comal Habitat for Humanity Holiday Fundraiser 2016

15401036_10210812653809916_4029133205936043804_nThe Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® New Braunfels office hosted an open house fundraiser directly benefiting the Comal Habitat for Humanity. Julie Gezella, VP of Residential Sales for the New Braunfels office, along with the entire team of local Sales Agents helped support this annual cause in a big way. The theme for this years’ Holiday party was “This is Where Awesomeness Happens.”

Nearly a dozen doors were decorated by children from the Lone Star Elementary and iCento schools for this open house event (5 have been sold so far). In addition to a many silent auction items, these beautiful doors were auctioned off with all proceeds going directly to the Comal County Habitat for Humanity. It’s a win for the children as well, with the winning classrooms receiving cash to spend for supplies.

Homemade food, refreshments and conversation were thoroughly enjoyed while guests admired the artistic doors and auction items. A welcome visit from Santa surprised the children, and not just any Santa – THE Santa.

In this season and all seasons Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® is proud to support Habitat in building homes with deserving families in Comal County. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people from everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating homes so that there are decent houses in decent communities. Lending a hand up, not a hand out.

“We must view shelter as the foundation for improving access to nutrition, education, employment and health care. We must view it as a vehicle for lasting transformation for families and communities alike.”

– Jonathan Reckford, CEO, Habitat for Humanity International

DID YOU KNOW?

• Habitat for Humanity SELLS the homes to their families – the homes are NOT free.
• The homes are financed through a long-term, no-interest loan.
• Habitat families help build their homes, with help from Habitat volunteers.
• Habitat families must complete 350 hours of “Sweat Equity” before they can move into their homes.

REALTOR® Rally 2016 – It’s A Wrap!

November 11th — Wow. Awesomeness. We have a true love of what we do here at Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® and the passion to share it with one another; but more importantly with everyone who has a place to call home.

REALTOR® Rally is a culmination of strategic planning and the desire to create an immersive learning experience. Classes taught by our valued partners, Sales Agents and Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC., guests were the hub of what made this event such a success. A framework of vendors brought their “A” game to share services, tools and ideas to equip attendees with a kickstart of business for 2017.

It is really tough to formulate into words what an experience this was for all of us. Rather than describe each class, amount of attendees and the usual stats, we wanted to share the photos. Our team of photographers were on hand to capture as many moments as we could. BUT, some of these photos were taken by our agents, employees and guests who shared their experiences on social media.

Thank you to everyone who attended. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and we’re already planning for next level awesomeness experience.

Enjoy these inside the event glimpses:

Big Bets For Homeless Pets

In an extended commitment to find homes for dogs in 2016, Coldwell Banker will continue its successful “Homes for Dogs Project” in collaboration with Adopt-a-Pet.com. Last year as part of the Coldwell Banker family, we set out on our mission to make a difference for the millions of adoptable pets around the country in need of a loving home.

Most recently our Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® New Braunfels Office took part in a casino night at the McKenna Center. Themed “Big Bets for Homeless Pets” tickets, food, beverages and big prizes were offered as part of an amazing casino night. With proceeds going to Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area, over 250 people came out and participated in the festivities.

We were very pleased to have sponsored this event. Thank you to Julie Gezella, her husband Ken, Kaycee Blanchard and all of the CBHarper New Braunfels Family for participating giving back to the community.

CBHarper New Braunfels Celebration

13428012_10209687823487862_1153746447909914556_nJune 2016 — Recently the Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® New Braunfels Sales Office held a Beach Party Lunch. Organized by two Sales Agents, Jenny Vonfeldt and Barbara Morgan, this party was full of fantastic fun-themed frivolity!

While the Sales Agents out of the New Braunfels office work very hard, they play hard as well. They worked together at the Texas River Fest on June 11th to spread the word of “finding home” amongst patrons eager to float the river. Despite the turn-out, they braved the Texas heat at Rockin’ R River Rides to cheer on in the name of real estate. More than just handing out free CBHarper swag – live music and cold drinks were also enjoyed. On June 14th, honoring the nearly 100 new listings the team brought into the office, they continued the week by hosting a beach theme luncheon to celebrate such a wonderful accomplishment.

Taco Cleanse

Unknown-1Four Austin, TX Vegan Blogger friends sat around talking about tacos in September 2013. Many of us already eat a lot of them but four “taco scientists” have come up with a taco plan they say will help change your life. Jessica Morris, daughter of our New Braunfels Office Vice President of Residential Sales, Julie Gezella, is one of the scientists along with Wes Allison (son-in-law), Stephanie Bogdanich and Molly R. Frisinger. They wondered if one could eat tacos for 30 days straight. The Taco Cleanse was born. Created through chronicling all their taco recipes so no two tacos were alike, the blog was picked up by a publisher,  who enjoyed the satire against old fashioned Cleanses as much as they did. With a total of 75 different vegan taco recipes, the group decided to publish a book for all to reap the benefits!

Texas is the home of the taco.  Austin is the home of Vegans. Marry the two and – bam!! A cookbook that is the fad diet to end all fad diets! But this one isn’t lemon juice, cayenne pepper or any number of other horrendous ‘lose weight quick’ fads. During the time when diets are the rage for the new year, this one is fun, and full of fresh veggies. Ok, tequila is involved, but who eats tacos without Margaritas?

Taco Cleanse BookIt’s not just a cookbook.  There’s taco yoga exercise illustrations, and a quiz to see exactly what kind of taco connoisseur you are. If you can do all 30 days then you’ll reach the “FUEGO” state, in which “your entire life will IGNITE with passion”. Basically, it’s taco nirvana.  Tacos cure what ails you.  In fact, it’s proven that Molly, one of the scientists, was able to conceive a long awaited child. And Wes, the only male taco scientist, was able to grow a long and amazing beard – something he could only dream about. All because of the cleansing. Now, you get the idea? The book is funny, and has been sweeping the country.

Among the national media outlets to have picked up this story are The Los Angeles Times, The Today Show, E! Online via Jennifer Aniston, who is onboard with the taco cleanse.

Numerous local news stations have been more than happy to indulge their taco dreams by detoxing deliciously. “Even if you do nothing else, your mood will brighten in just 24 hours. Keep eating tacos and within a week your outlook will be noticeably improved,” the book promises. “After 30 days, cleansers report lasting benefits—and you will, too!”

ATXU Investigates: The Taco Cleanse:

While this is “nacho” typical cleanse, it certainly has created national buzz! Already sold out on AmazonThe Taco Cleanse is easy and delicious. Its recipes are authentically Austin, and are sometimes even inspired by Mexico. Other recent appearances on San Antonio KENS 5, FOX 7 Austin, Meredith Vieira have led the scientists to Portland and Seattle for book signings and then to Fox And Friends to be interviewed.

Laura Beck, editor for Cosmopolitan and “Vegansaurus” writer, backed the brow-raising cleanse in the book’s foreword. “You’ll walk away with an actual diploma that proves to the world that you are a taco-loving lunatic not to be messed with. Taco speed, my little tacos,” she vouched.

#1 BEST SELLER in Cooking Humor, who knows what else is in store for the next chapter of The Taco Cleanse. All that the four of these Scientists know is maybe drinking too many margaritas one afternoon and coming up with a crazy idea, wasn’t so crazy after all!

Thank you Julie Gezella for bringing us this story!

Adoption Stories, Meet Dottie & Buddy

Guest writer, Julie Gezella with her forever Adopt-a-pet story.

12399491_10207751487962683_67705780_nWhen Coldwell Banker announced their promotion to Adopt a Pet the beginning of this year, it accelerated our plans to pull the trigger. Adopting would be one small way to help meet Coldwell Banker’s 20,000 pet goal. My husband and I had been without a dog for almost six years.  Never thought we could replace our Golden Retriever that we had for 14 years.

A lot of time was spent on the Adopt-a-Pet website in January. Certainly an experience I had never been through, given our dogs always came from breeders and we had history on parents when we purchased them.  So to just base your decision on a brief paragraph from the adoption centers,  with very little information, is hard. Finally we narrowed it down to five dogs and started our interview process. (yes, serious stuff!)

UnknownThe first dog just wasn’t interested in either of us, how sad to think a dog would ever not like us!!  The second dog we visited, at the local Humane Society, I knew right away she was mine.  Love at first sight.  She ran up to me, rolled over, and wanted her belly rubbed. Dottie (our name we changed), had been in the shelter for 18 months (brought back twice by adoptive families).  So, she wasn’t too sure about any type of commitment.  Ken decided to stop at the pet store and fill his pocket with burger treats.  Needless to say, that was all it took to create the bond between man’s best friend!  I know now, the background made me want her more.  To be returned by families that couldn’t keep up with her activity level, had a yard big enough to roam, just broke our hearts.  We felt we were those people that she was waiting for.

Unknown-1Fast forward (wasn’t easy, not kidding anyone,  shelter dogs definitely have needs that don’t get worked out overnight) I felt Dottie needed a companion.  After all, she was in a shelter with 100 other dogs for most of her life.  She would wail when we would leave the house.  So, I asked Ken if we could just visit the shelter, bring some donations for the animals and just “browse” for another dog.  Reluctantly he agreed.  Dottie was a handful, so the idea didn’t catch on with him at first.  So, we brought Dottie with us and went to visit the shelter.

Unknown-2The co-director, Will, was there. He helped us with Dottie, and knew her history at the shelter well.  So, I asked him which dog could be the best for her.  He walked me through the shelter.  He let me know that Dottie was always the “mother” of the pack.  One time she was housed with six other dogs in ONE kennel. And, definitely she was the alpha dog, so I needed a companion that would let her continue to rule the house.  I saw many dogs, all on their best behavior BUT, I came across this little guy, Buddy, half Chihuahua and half Jack Russell.  He was giving me the “take me home eyes” and looking pretty sitting perfectly in his kennel.  Buddy was picked up on the streets,  from the flooding in San Marcos over Memorial weekend.  When his owner was found, she was unable to afford to take him back, due to the expense of having to rebuild her home.  He was surrendered by the owner, and 30 days later put on the “adoption list”.  I asked to hold him.  Another love affair. Brought him out to meet Dottie and Ken… and the rest is history!

Thanks to Coldwell Banker for convincing us to do what we needed to do.  I let Budge Huskey know at the recent convention it was by far the best promotion Coldwell Banker has ever rolled out!

New Braunfels Office Open House

Tuesday, December 8th — New Braunfel’s Herald Zeitung published a front page article featuring our Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® New Braunfels Office auctioning off doors benefiting Habitat for Humanity. The students at New Braunfels Lone Star Elementary put their imaginations to use decorating the doors to be auctioned for Comal County Habitat for Humanity Neighborhood Revitalization Program.

Beginning at 4pm, the first guests arrived to the smell of fresh made wassail. Each wall, lined with seating and auction items, was the perfect picture of merriment. Over 300 guests enjoyed good food and company, plus a special appearance from Mr. Claus himself. Children excitedly trailed Santa throughout the office to convey their Christmas wishes and have a photo taken. More than $4,500 was raised, in addition to the pending final tally of the door auction, benefiting the local Lone Star Elementary. The door voting will run through this Sunday, December 13th, and we welcome the public to stop by our New Braunfels office to cast their vote.

Over all it was such an amazing night and the reward of giving back to our community is its own reward. Thank you to all who attended and donated so many wonderful silent auction items. To view all the photos visit our company Facebook page here or here.

Opening Doors & Giving Back

IMG_3805Wednesday, December 2nd — New Braunfel’s Herald Zeitung published a front page article featuring our Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® New Braunfels Office. The students at New Braunfels Lone Star Elementary put their imaginations to use, spotlighting a cause our New Braunfels office is actively involved in – Comal County Habitat for Humanity Neighborhood Revitalization Program.

Lone Star elementary teamed up with Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® New Braunfels Office for the program – a holistic approach that expands Habitat for Humanity’s traditional partnership with new homeowners and volunteers, including neighbors for a Unknownbroader impact.

Recently Habitat worked with various community leaders to determine what part they would like to play in the project. After talking with Lone Star Elementary, the staff members decided to help by holding a themed door decorating contest at the school – “Opening Doors of Opportunity.” At least one door was decorated by every grade and will be displayed at the Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® New Braunfel’s Office located at 532 S. Seguin Avenue.

Unknown-5In the article published by the Herald Zeitung, executive director of Comal County Habitat for Humanity Nathan Weir said, “The kids had a great time and did a wonderful job of capturing the theme by incorporating many of the key Habitat concepts in their projects.” He continued by adding, “Now that the doors are complete, they will be put on display at the Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Offices from Dec. 8 through the 14th, and be a part of the yearly silent auction benefiting Comal County Habitat for Humanity.”

Weir went on to say that the entire community is invited to stop by the office on 532 S. Seguin Avenue to view and vote for their favorite door or other auction items. Anyone who stops by on Dec. 8th between 4-6 p.m. for the office’s appreciation event will be treated to special holiday beverages and food.

After all of the votes are in and counted, the D’Ann Harper office will present the winning classrooms that decorated with a prize. “Our hope was to get that word out about our program, and also show off the kids’ skills,” Weir said. “We just did this project with one school this year, but we love to open this up to many schools and make it bigger. Our whole intent though was to make the Neighborhood Revitalization Program known, and get the kids and parents to ask questions.”

Unknown-2Madeline Hezel, a fifth grader at Lone Star Elementary, said her favorite part of the project was working on the door together as a class. “The theme of our door was to not lose hope, ” Hezel said. “I liked the way everyone showed their creativity, and made each of their doors special. Every door holds a different destiny.”

Congratulations Julie Gezella

Thursday, November 19th — Comal County Habitat for Humanity had their 2015 Volunteer Appreciation Banquet at the Knights of Columbus Hall in New Braunfels.  Julie Gezella, Sales Manager with the New Braunfels office was chosen by the Board of Directors to receive the 2014 Susan Brown Award for Outstanding Volunteer Dedicated to Fundraising. This award is in memory of Steve Brown’s wife, Susan. Steve is a member of the Board of Directors.

Nathan Weir, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity presented Julie the award for her work on raising funds thru their Stud Run 5k, Mudd Volleyball and various silent auctions during their office events.   Nathan mentioned that this award is always given internally.  To have an outside corporate company raise the funds that Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® has, hasn’t happened, until now!

Julie told the audience that “without the help of her amazing office and amazing Broker, D’Ann Harper, no way could those funds have been raised.  For our third year, we continue to increase the amount of money we raise.  Our Community Appreciation New Braunfels event on December 8th at our office will be another silent auction. In addition to lots of items to bid on, this year Nathan has arranged to have Lone Star Elementary School decorate doors donated by Habitat for the auction as well.  The kids will be told to create the theme “Opening Doors for Opportunity”, a revitalization project for the community of which Lone Star School is located in.  The awareness for the kids to know how important homeownership can be for deserving hand selected families is amazing! “

From all of us here at Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® – thank you for all you do and congratulations!

The New Braunfels office had their reward party for the winning team during their ‘Spring Listing Contest’. Team Thunderballs (Chris Bowers, captain) served up a Casino Royale 007 themed affair for the Golden Guns (Mary Ann Rhodes, Captain).

Although each Sales Associate works independently we as Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® feel a sense of family and loyalty towards one another. It’s this relationship fostered by learning and growth under the guidance of our Office Managers that instills passion and success among locations. Celebrating achievements and laughing together the New Braunfels office has shown what a little competition and a lot of hard work can do!

Cheers to our Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® New Braunfels Office! Well done on increasing sales and bringing families home along the way. Here are some photos from their party and it looks like a good time was had by all.
