CBHarper 2017 Spring Blood Drive

Several times a year Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® hosts a blood drive coordinated by Denise Barnhill. The buses that visit us bring wonderful teams from The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center who work hard to collect life-saving blood donations.

Yesterday’s Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® Spring Blood Drive was a tremendous success. We collected 15 pints of blood and exceeded our goal of 11 pints of blood, which means we saved 45 lives. Each pint of blood can save up to 3 lives.

A special thank you goes to everyone who donated and who also helped to make our Blood Drive such a tremendous success. Thanks to Mika Connor and Danielle Martin for coordinating and collecting names.

Thank you to everyone who donated blood today by giving someone the gift of life.

We wanted to offer an outlet for those that still wanted to give but perhaps ran out of time. There is a location very close just off Northwest Military and Loop 1604 where donors can drop by – you can even schedule an appointment online here.

Blood Drive March 2017

The next blood donation drive will be on Thursday, March 9th here at Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS®. We want to invite you to participate when the donation bus arrives here at the North Central / Stone Oak Office front parking lot at 18756 Stone Oak Pkwy. at 9:15am.
Denise Barnhill is the main point of contact and works tirelessly to coordinate this event. Setup your appointment by emailing Denise here.
She has passed out flyers that read “Give Angelica Another Birthday, Give Blood.”

With many of the medical advances achieved though study and research, it is easy to forget that there are still people out there who are in need of blood.

South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) is a Texas institution and a proud partner with the South Texas health care system. It began in 1973 when three San Antonio physicians, Charles Robinson, M.D., Robert F. Gossett, M.D., and Michael H. Sulak M.D., in conjunction with the Bexar County Medical Society charter the new nonprofit, community blood center, South Texas Regional Blood Bank (STRBB).

In 1901 the discovery of blood groups A, B and O were made. The following year in 1902 the blood group AB was discovered. It wasn’t until 1937 that storing blood for transfusions was established in Rochester’s Mayo Clinic. Fast forward nearly forty years to 1974. That was when the South Texas Regional Blood Bank first opened its doors for volunteer blood donations.

It wasn’t until 1994 that a new location was built on IH-10 and a new name was given to reflect their expanded mission. South Texas Blood & Tissue Center.

Just 25,000 donors gave blood that first year in 1974. The STBTC still strives to encourage blood donations. Because of blood donations from generous donors like you, Angelica survived her brain tumor. She’s now working toward becoming a physical occupational therapist.

Blood Drive August 2016

August 4th 2016Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® partnered with Covenant, located on the first floor of our Tuscany Center building at 18756 Stone Oak Pkwy., for this summer’s blood drive. Our goal was to collect 11 pints of blood, but we exceeded that by collecting 17 pints of blood. Each pint of blood can save up to 3 lives, which means we saved 51 lives.

Everyday the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center needs over 600 units of life saving blood. One whole blood donation can save up to 3 lives. Patients needs do not take vacations or holidays, the need is ongoing.

A special thank you to everyone who donated, helped get donations and helped with the drive. We would like to take this time to recognize Mika Connor who coordinated the master donor list, Sharlene Richards who gathered names on the 3rd floor and David Akright for recruiting volunteer donors at Covenant.

Our next blood drive is scheduled for December 1, 2016. Until then, if you would like to visit one of the South Texas Blood & Tissue Centers offices to make a blood donation, they can be found here:
