CBHarper Best Place to Work for 2017

The San Antonio Business Journal announced 75 winners in its 2017 Best Places to Work awards.

This year’s winners fall into four different categories. To determine this year’s winner, Quantum Workplace surveyed employees through a secure website posing a range of questions in categories relating to teamwork, leadership, benefits and work engagement. The honoree companies were those that scored highest.

Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS® is a family owned company. That phrase is often tossed about and therefore perhaps become watered down in its meaning. Our CBHarper family is more that just “family owned and operated”, it IS family. We grow and work together closely to offer the level of service we would hope to receive.

A luncheon will be hosted on July 20th at the Grand Hyatt where we will be humbly accepting our award. Through the years as we continue to receive ‘Best Places to Work’ awards it is a reminder of our responsibility to provide that positive environment. The President of Coldwell Banker D’Ann Harper, REALTORS®, Leesa Harper-Rispoli, will gladly stop, give you a hug in the hallway and ask about your family. Why? Because it’s more than just a job, and she is more than just an employer or business woman. Leesa and D’Ann (Broker / Owner) are passionate and care deeply about their employees. They know that the success of a company relies on those who work, behind the scenes, day in and day out to sustain a synergy of trust, transparency, and fulfillment.

Thank you to all of the support staff who make this possible. You are heard and appreciated.

As a previous Director at a large retirement community in San Antonio and many years of real estate and marketing experience, I have a passion for helping and serving others with trustworthiness, integrity and top notch service. Well done Trudy! Thank you for sharing such wonderful words with us and cheers to your continued success.

Le Brunch des Chapeaux

Thursday, April 6th — The Autism Community Network is an organization that maximizes the potential of children with autism by increasing autism awareness and services for families throughout the San Antonio area.

Lindsey Ashcroft attended Le Brunch des Chapeaux in Alamo Heights at the Argyle benefiting the Autism Community Network. The Autism Community Network focuses on collaboration with other autism service providers, early diagnosis, and providing services to underserved young children and their families. Over 75% of families served are on Medicaid, and they are the only agency in San Antonio to provide medical interdisciplinary autism diagnostic services for children on Medicaid. Charitable contributions make up around 90% of their funding, and it is wonderful to hear about Lindsey’s support of this event.

Le Brunch des Chapeaux, a sold out event, was also supported by a variety of local businesses including Julian Gold and Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry. As with any fine brunch all the ladies were adorned in elegantly fabulous hats. Thank you to Lindsey Ashcroft who brought us this story and share beautiful photos of the day.

Simply gorgeous.

Planning the Future for Children with Disabilities

Planning the Future for Children with Disabilities

Guest Article by Charlotte Meier

When you have a child with a disability, it’s important to plan ahead for her future, particularly if she is going to need assistance caring for herself as an adult. There are many things you can do now, as she is growing, that will be beneficial for her later in life.

Plan for Your Child’s Adulthood Early On

Start as soon as you can; it’s never too early. As a parent of a child with a disability you need to be coming up with ideas for the future, even though you may not foresee a time when your child can live without your support. Most children outlive their parents, so it’s important that you make provisions for a time when you will not be there to care for your child. It helps to generate an image of the adult she will become, then you can begin to process the type of support she will need. Consider the community where she will live. What type of accommodation will she need? Who will her closest friends be? What kind of support group will she have? Share these ideas with your family and friends and they will help you build a clearer picture.

Learn From Adults With Disabilities

It may be difficult for you to imagine what it will be like for your child to live with her disability as an adult. To help you understand, you should get to know adults with the same or similar disability. Talk to them about their lifestyle and the level of support they need. You can also attend support groups and workshops where you can meet parents with older disabled children.

Research the Support Options in Your Community

It’s vital that you become familiar with the support options in your community for adults with disabilities. Look into groups and organizations that are involved with work programs, assisted living and recreational programs. There are many good resources online, such as the Center for Parent Information and Resources and Special Needs Resources.

Become an Advocate Within Your Community

Reach out to other families in your area through local parent support groups. Contact service providers and let them know about your child’s needs so that services will be readily available as and when she needs them. Find out how you can advocate for services that are not yet in place. Sign up for local organization’s newsletters, so you can keep abreast of the latest changes.

Help Your Child Connect

Build a foundation in your community for your child’s future. Help her to connect with local people, both disabled and non-disabled. The more people you child knows now, the stronger her network will be when she is an adult. Help your child make friends with non-disabled children in your area by arranging for them to do activities together, such as watching movies, baking cookies, or playing video games.

If you have a young child, it may, at this time, be hard to realize the importance of looking ahead to her adult future. But the sooner you begin to imagine how it’s going to be, the more prepared you will be and the easier it will be for you to help your child develop a strong foundation for independence. There’s no need to feel overwhelmed by creating a life plan for a child with a disability. Start now and build on it gradually, and when the time comes, it will be easier for you to help your child make the transition to adulthood.

Mason’s Mighty Superheroes, A Follow-Up

We recently brought you a story about Cindy Enloe, REALTOR® and her participation in Mason’s Mighty Superheroes. On Saturday March 25th a crowd of supporters gathered to show off their superhero powers alongside Mason “Ace” Martinez.

Held at the Heights at Stone Oak, the race honored 8 year old Mason. On June 21st 2016 just one month after moving to Texas from Tampa, Florida Mason was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Since then, Mason has spent over 35 nights in the hospital and hundreds of doses of chemotherapy and over 15 outpatient lumbar punctures to test his brain and spinal fluid for any “kryptonite”. At one point his bone marrow was occupied by 93% and his blood by 50%. Through his struggles his family and community in the Heights at Stone Oak/Hardy Oak Elementary area has loved and supported him. On July 28th, Mason “Ace” Martinez reached full remission!

To help support Mason and his family a Superhero Race was organized to raise money for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.

U.S. Rep Joaquin Castro kick started the race with a short speech in a statement to the San Antonio Express News Castro said, “I got back from Washington late last night, and I wanted to support Mason and his family. It’s really special to see so many people from the neighborhood here to support him.”

Amid all the children donning their favorite super hero costumes, were so many supporters just happy to be a part of such a wonderful cause.
